The Division of Medical Education was established within the College of Medicine to support and encourage the improvement of medical education by providing faculty development; consulting on the design, implementation and revision of educational programs; and facilitating the Curriculum Committee’s role as the central curriculum authority within the College.

T.J. Hundley, M.D.
Associate Dean for Medical Education; Associate Professor, Internal Medicine
Dr. Hundley's responsibilities focus on the overall design and implementation of the
undergraduate medical education program in accordance with national accreditation

Abu-Bakr Al-Mehdi, M.D., Ph.D.
Assistant Dean, Assessment & Evaluation; Professor of Pharmacology & Medical Education
Dr. Al-Mehdi oversees programs for development of testing and student self-assessment
and evaluation of program effectiveness. He serves as the College’s liaison to the

Laura Boatright, M.D.
Assistant Dean for Medical Education; Director of Clinical Skills; Assistant Professor, Medical Education
In her role as the Assistant Dean for Simulation, Dr. Boatright oversees the development
and implementation of simulation-based medical education at the Whiddon COM Simulation
Center, ensuring adherence to best practices and institutional goals. As the Director
of the Clinical Skills courses, she oversees curriculum development and delivery,
chairs the Clinical Skills Subcommittee, and oversees the CLINIC program. Dr. Boatright

Benjamin Estrada, M.D.
Assistant Dean for Medical Education; Professor and Vice Chair, Department of Pediatrics

Jeffrey Sosnowski, M.D., Ph.D.
Assistant Dean for Medical Education; Professor, Medical Education
Dr. Sosnowski chairs the Curriculum Integration Subcommittee of the Curriculum Committee
and assists the Associate Dean of Medical Education in design and implementation of

David Weber, Ph.D.
Assistant Dean for Medical Education; Professor, Physiology and Cell Biology
Dr. Weber's duties include overseeing the pre-clerkship phase of the curriculum and
assisting course directors in both the design and delivery of the system-based courses.

Phillip Fields, Ph.D.
Professor, Medical Education
Dr. Fields' duties include the design and delivery of the curriculum linked to the
anatomical sciences. Areas of focus include the integration of both developmental
anatomy and radiologic imaging related to clinical anatomy. Dr. Fields can be reached

Vaughan Lee, Ph.D.
Professor, Medical Education
Dr. Lee's duties include the design and delivery of the curriculum linked to the anatomical
sciences. In addition, he leads the development and implementation of the point-of-care

Greg Brower, D.V.M., Ph.D.
Professor, Medical Education
Dr. Brower's duties include the design and delivery of the curriculum linked to the
anatomical sciences, including the integration of radiology and ultrasound imaging
relevant to clinical anatomy and advanced anatomy electives. In addition, he contributes
to the development and implementation of medical simulation in undergraduate medical

Kayla V. Pavlick, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor, Medical Education
Dr. Pavlick's duties include the design and delivery of the pre-clerkship phase curriculum
linked to the anatomical sciences with a focus on neuroscience. In addition, she focuses
on ways to improve medical education for both students and faculty through the implementation
of modern pedagogical practices and learning theory. Dr. Pavlick can be contacted

Dr. Lopez's duties include delivery of the anatomical sciences curriculum with a focus on integrating point-of-care ultrasound into the educational program. He also has interests in clinical reasoning, integrating technology into medical education, and the use of simulation to enhance teaching and learning of students.
