Whiddon College of Medicine Simulation Center

The University of South Alabama's Whiddon College of Medicine Simulation Center offers
an immersive healthcare environment designed to enable medical students and healthcare
professionals to safely enhance their knowledge, refine their skills, and collaborate
effectively within the context of real-life patient scenarios. The on-campus facility
is equipped with high-fidelity simulators, a diverse array of task trainers, and a
comprehensive standardized patient laboratory. Furthermore, the Center facilitates
simulation events at USA Health University Hospital and Children’s & Women’s Hospital.
Our objective is to advance hands-on education, foster research, promote teamwork,
and encourage innovation and effective communication.
The Simulation Center is equipped with multiple clinical simulation laboratories, control rooms, and dedicated debriefing spaces. The standardized patient lab includes clinical examination rooms, facilitating active learning through standardized patient encounters. All clinical simulation areas and debriefing spaces are monitored by cameras and microphones, enabling video recording and real-time observation to enhance debriefing sessions and provide personalized assessments for participants. The Center collaborates closely with various departments, course directors, individual faculty members, and other healthcare organizations to design educational experiences and learning objectives that effectively integrate simulation into the curriculum. Through these efforts, the Simulation Center is committed to cultivating a rigorous and dynamic educational environment that prepares participants for the complexities of modern healthcare practice.
