No. Working as a lifeguard, store clerk, secretary, or bartender is work experience, but chances are this type of work won’t maximize your potential to obtain full-time employment. The bottom line is your internship is a three-month interview. It is important to work in an industry of interest or in a position where you obtain skills directly transferrable to your post-graduation plans.  This internship is not meant to be ‘just another requirement’; it is meant to help you get a full-time job in your area of interest after graduation, so you should take it seriously!
If you experience any problems in your internship or with your employer, please contact Jessica Franks, Coordinator of Experiential Learning, or your department chair before you act. They can help you understand your options and will assist you with the issues. Quitting an internship without speaking with your department chair or the Coordinator of Experiential Learning can have serious consequences, including a failing grade in your 496 course.
No. Students must complete 112.5 hours in their internship, AND are also required to honor the Internship Beginning and Ending Date listed on their Internship Application.
