National Board Support Schedule

The inservice center supports NBCT candidates through their NBCT professional learning journey. This academic year all educators seeking national board certification in Region 10 are welcome to attend the monthly support sessions.  The same session will be offered each month at multiple locations.  Please feel free to attend any of the sessions each month as the information shared will be the same.  However, we will need you to pre-register using the Powerschool# listed on each section.  This will help us provide the needed materials and support providers at each session. You can click on the button next to PowerSchool Registration to register for the session. All sessions will be listed in PowerSchool for 2 hours of professional learning credit.

USA RIC National Board Certification: Is the Journey Right for You? PS# 255271

Description: Based on research, the National Board developed five core propositions and professional teaching standards that describe the knowledge and practices that accomplished teachers use to positively impact student learning.  The National Board certification journey for an educator is dynamic, flexible, and personal.  This course offers detailed instructions on application procedures, an overview of the process, helpful resources, grant information, and tips for preparing for the National Board certification. In addition, candidate support providers will be assigned to small groups of educators per component to assist with the certification process.

In this session, a National Board certified teacher will share an overview of the National Board process, the components, the core propositions, and the standards. There will be a time for sharing helpful resources, discussing the support offered to National Board certification candidates, and general questions and answers. The goal after the session will be for educators to read the standards for his or her certification area before the September session. There will be a time for component questions and answers with an NBCT coach.

USA RIC NBCT Journey to Accomplished Teaching: Charting Your Course for National Board Certification PS# 319552

Description: In this session, participants will begin charting the course for National Board Certification (NBC).  This will include discussions focused on the Five Core Propositions and how those align with effective teaching practices; the NBC Standards; and the four components required during the certification process. The goal after the session will be for educators to choose a certificate and read the standards for his or her certification area before the October session. This session will review components 2, 3, and 4. National Board candidates will work in small groups to complete tasks on a component checklist, meet with a mentor, and read portions of Bobbie Faulkner’s books.

USA RIC NBCT Navigating the Foundation: Exploring National Board Certification’s Core Propositions and Standards PS# 319975

Description: In this session, candidates will explore the five core propositions of National Board Certification and look for evidence of those in their teaching. In addition to navigating the foundational elements of the 5 Core Propositions, candidates will spend time reflecting on accomplished teaching through the lens of the National Board Certification standards. This session will review components 2, 3, and 4. National Board candidates will work in small groups to complete tasks on a component checklist, meet with a mentor, and read portions of Bobbie Faulkner’s books.

Description: Have you heard the news? There is a new process for National Board Certification renewal called Maintenance of Certification (MOC). Attend this session to learn about the steps to take for continuing your prestigious distinction of being a National Board Certified Teacher. MOC must be started in your fourth or fifth year of certification. Even if you attain initial certification this year, attend this session to learn about the ongoing collection of evidence for your Professional Growth Experience.

November 2024 Cohort Session:

Title: USA RIC NBCT Trekking Toward National Board Certification: Types of Writing PS# 319980

Description: Continuing the journey toward National Board Certification, we will trek through the three types of writing for component commentaries: descriptive, analytical, and reflective. Candidates will learn strategies for responding to prompts with clear, concise, and convincing writing. This session will review components 2, 3, and 4. National Board candidates will work in small groups to complete tasks on a component checklist, meet with a mentor, and read portions of Bobbie Faulkner’s books.

Title: USA RIC NBCT Destination Certification: Quest for Analysis and Supporting Evidence PS# 319981

Description: In this session, participants will look closer at the core propositions, standards, and requirements of components 2, 3, and 4 of National Board Certification, with a particular emphasis on honing their ability to analyze student learning and provide robust evidence of their instructional impact. By exploring best practices in assessment, data analysis, and evidence collection, educators will reflect on teaching and learning through the lens of student evidence and mastery of student learning outcomes.  National Board candidates will work in small groups to complete tasks on a component checklist, meet with a mentor, and read portions of Bobbie Faulkner’s books.

Description: Mentors who support National Board Certification candidates are an important element of a successful journey. Using the training modules from NBCTS, participants will address responsibilities of mentors (Professional Learning Facilitators) and candidates, ethical expectations, providing feedback for candidates, and guiding principles to promote growth that will benefit candidates and mentors.

May 2025 Cohort Session:

Title: USA RIC National Board Certification: Time to Fly: Preparing for Component 1 PS#284008

Target Audience: PreK-12 educators seeking National Board certification.

Description: A panel discussion, led by NBCTs from the SARIC region, will provide answers to questions for preparing for Component 1. A variety of certificates will be represented to provide specific insight into the nuances of each certificate’s written test. A Google form will be sent to registered participants for submitting specific questions before the session. There will be time for Q&A at the end of the session.
